Baby Slings - Ring Sling Sizing Info.
It's really important that your new ring sling fits you and your baby properly, if you want it to work for you.
Ring slings DO NOT FIT like regular womens clothing sizes, and are sized by length which can vary greatly on different body types. So we ask that you please measure for your sling!
Measuring for your carrier is very easy! Please use these directions to help find the right size for you and your little one.

- Take the end of your measuring tape and place it between your breast and collar bone (where you'd pin a corsage) with the long end over your shoulder.
- Loop the tape around your back to your opposite hip (you'll want it to fall at your natural waist) and bring the end around the front and back up to corsage position.
- Pinch the tail end of the tape and let the tail end of the tape fall down towards your hip.
- Take note of where you would like the tail of the sling to fall.
Most find that a good length is around mid-hip to the top of the thigh. If you are going to be using your sling for breastfeeding or want to use the tail to protect the baby from the elements you will want to take note of your measurement upper to mid-thigh.

On our size chart, we give you a range of where the tail will fall on you with a child in our ring slings. Different carries require more or less fabric and the length of the tail will vary depending on the position of the baby. To find your true size, take your length measurement using the directions above and find what size range fits you best. For example, a medium sling will be exactly 80 inches long, however in certain holds, it may fall 75" on you, so if 75" will be too short, order one size up! Most women will find that they fit in a Small or a Medium Sling.

All decorative panels on Peonies Baby Slings measure about 12" up from the bottom of the tail. Make sure your sling will not be too short, making adjustments difficult, because the panel is too high and interferes with the rings. While we can usually make a longer tail shorter, it is much more difficult to make a smaller sling longer. Dressmakers tapes are readily available at craft stores and are relatively inexpensive costing only $2 or so and well worth a great fit and not having to deal with returning your carrier!
Please also take into consideration that the thickness/stretch of the fabric of the ring sling, what position the baby is in, and how many layers of clothing you both are wearing will make an impact on the length of the tail. For example, Cradle and Kangaroo carries use the most fabric (between 4-6"). So if you have ordered a size Medium sling, even though the total length of the sling is 85", it may fall anywhere from 79-81" in those positions.
ARE YOU PREGNANT OR SHOWING? Please do not use the instructions above as your bump will completely throw off your measurement and your sling will be too long after you give birth. Here's how to obtain an accurate measurement if your expecting:
- Have your partner or a friend place a soft measuring tape at the outside edge of your shoulder, in the middle (where your shirt seam is). It will not be accurate if you try to do the measurement yourself.
- Have him or her pull the tape measure tight and come down across your back and around to the top of your hip (where your natural waist begins).
-
Triple the measurement. Then look to see where you fall on the sizing chart above.
